INTENT
‘Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. A high quality music education should engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement. As pupils progress, they should develop a critical engagement with music, allowing them to compose, and to listen with discrimination to the best in the musical canon.’ National Curriculum 2014
At Marsh Gibbon CE School we understand the importance the exposure of music plays in our lives both as a listener and a musician. We want to, therefore, support our children to be passionate, creative and curious appreciators of music and its valuable impact on their lives.
With this in mind, our children experience a broad and balanced curriculum that deepens their musical knowledge, skills and well-being.

At Marsh Gibbon CE School we are very proud of our outstanding musical activities. All children are taught by a specialist Music teacher each week.
All Key Stage 2 pupils learn about notation as part of their weekly music lesson provided by the Buckinghamshire Music Trust.
Singing
Singing is a wonderful and important part of the life of our school and our children sing with joy and enthusiasm during Collective Worship and in music lessons. In lessons pupils enjoy using a range of percussion instruments to compose, play and perform in groups and as a class. We have an amazing collection of high quality instruments including enough djembe drums, glockenspiels and xylophones, ukuleles, recorders and hand held percussion for a whole class to play together.
They use their voices and play musical instruments with increasing accuracy, fluency, control. All pupils are given the opportunity to perform in concerts, church services and class showcase assemblies.
