Our Intent
Our curriculum is a balance between child-initiated and adult-led learning. Using the mirrors, windows, and doors analogy, our teaching helps children to:
- Mirrors: See reflections of their own experiences, feelings, and identities through stories, activities, and interactions.
- Windows: Gain understanding of different cultures, communities, and the wider world through stories, activities, and exploration.
- Doors: Open new pathways of curiosity, discovery, and learning through play, challenges, and interactions that meet the children’s interests and developmental needs.
Implementation
- Enabling Environment: Carefully planned continuous provision and a stimulating environment that evolves to meet children’s interests and needs.
- Language & Literacy: Promoting high standards in language development through storytelling, shared reading, nursery rhymes, and phonics, supporting children to read and write independently.
- Mathematics: Using a ‘Maths Mastery’ approach, children explore number, shape, and calculation in meaningful, everyday contexts, developing deep understanding and mathematical language.
- Emotional Well-being & Social Skills: Focusing on building resilience, self-regulation, and positive attitudes through reflective practices and adult interactions.
- Partnerships: Working closely with families through ‘stay and play’, workshops, and regular discussions about children’s interests, progress, and next steps.
Impact
- Children make good progress from their starting points, developing confidence, independence, and a love for learning.
- Regular observations and assessments help identify individual needs, including those with SEND and disadvantaged pupils, ensuring targeted support.
- Children leave EYFS with a sense of awe about the world, a love of stories and books, and readiness to explore further in Year 1.
- Reflection, sharing achievements, and ongoing communication with parents support children’s confidence and joy in their learning journey
