OUR CURRICULUM

Our Curriculum at Marsh Gibbon CE School

At Marsh Gibbon CE School, we are incredibly proud to provide an inclusive, high-quality, and creative education for all of our pupils. Our curriculum is designed not only to develop knowledge and skills but also to nurture moral, spiritual, social, and cultural growth, all within a caring and joyful environment. Everything we do is rooted in our school’s core vision and values, guiding us to shape confident, reflective, and lifelong learners.

Our School Vision & Values
"Succeeding together — fostering a love of learning within a nurturing Christian community, to bring out ‘the best in everyone’."

Our curriculum reflects this vision by creating a learning environment where children feel safe, valued, and inspired to explore the world around them. Guided by our Christian values of love, respect, compassion, honesty, forgiveness, and friendship, we want children to grow as morally grounded individuals who understand and appreciate diversity and community.

Join Us
At Marsh Gibbon, our curriculum is more than just lessons; it’s a journey of discovery that celebrates our Christian values, nurtures our spiritual and moral growth, and helps every child flourish as a confident, caring, and reflective member of our community.

The Philosophy of Learning: Windows, Mirrors, and Doors
We believe that learning through the curriculum should open windows to new worlds, serve as mirrors for children to see their own experiences, and open doors to new ideas and opportunities.
  • Mirrors: Help children see reflections of their own beliefs, backgrounds, and experiences, fostering a sense of identity and self-awareness, including their spiritual growth.
  • Windows: Allow children to understand and appreciate different cultures, faiths, and perspectives, nurturing empathy and respect.
  • Doors: Invite children to explore new concepts, challenge ideas, and develop a deeper understanding of the world and themselves.
This analogy is at the heart of our approach, ensuring that every child’s learning journey is meaningful, inclusive, and inspiring.

Our Curriculum: Focused on Growth, Diversity, and Spirituality
Intent:
Our curriculum is designed to be rich, vibrant, and meaningful. It encourages children to become independent, confident learners with high aspirations. We strive to develop their moral, spiritual, social, and cultural understanding—helping them to make positive contributions both locally and globally. Our focus is on inspiring curiosity, fostering a love of lifelong learning, and nurturing a sense of belonging and purpose grounded in Christian values.

Implementation:
  • Our planning ensures progression in knowledge, skills, and understanding from Reception to Year 6.
  • We incorporate real-life experiences, visits, visitors, and practical activities to bring learning alive and make it relevant.
  • Our lessons are inclusive and adapted to meet the needs of all learners, including those with special educational needs, disabilities, or who are more able.
  • Oracy and vocabulary development are fundamental, helping children articulate their ideas, debate, and reflect confidently.
  • We prioritise physical and mental wellbeing, ensuring children develop resilience, self-awareness, and a positive mindset.

Spirituality & Reflection:
Throughout our curriculum, spiritual growth is nurtured through reflection, discussion, and creative expression. Children are encouraged to consider their own beliefs, values, and feelings, fostering a personal connection to their learning and to their faith.

Impact: Growing Confident, Compassionate Learners

Our goal is for children to leave Marsh Gibbon School ready for the next stage of their education and life—confident, respectful, and reflective individuals who understand the importance of community and moral responsibility.
  • Children develop a love of learning and a curiosity that lasts a lifetime.
  • They learn to respect and value diversity, understanding that everyone’s beliefs and experiences are important—like windows to understanding others.
  • They see themselves reflected in their learning, building a strong sense of identity—like mirrors.
  • They are inspired to explore new ideas and challenge themselves—like doors opening to new opportunities.
  • Spiritual growth and moral development are woven throughout, helping children to reflect on their purpose, faith, and role in the world.

Our children say...

"Lessons are fun and make me want to learn more. I enjoy discovering new things about the world and about myself."

"Our school feels like a big family where everyone is kind and helps each other to grow."
"I like learning about different cultures and beliefs because it helps me understand and respect others."
