Our Curriculum - Intent

Our vision is to foster a love of learning, within a nurturing Christian community, in order to bring out 'the best in everyone' to succeed together.

Our intent is to create a curriculum that supports our vision. It has been carefully designed and sequenced to ensure that;
  • Academic success, as well as physical development, well-being and mental wellness are key elements that support the development of the whole child and promotes a positive attitude to learning.
  • New knowledge and skills build on what has been taught and understood before.
  • It recognises children will be at different stages of their learning journey and ensures planning is carefully tailored to meet individual needs.
  • It provides meaningful opportunities to promote children's spiritual, moral, social and cultural development and prepares our pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life.
  • It develops our children to become active learners who take ownership over their learning.
  • It is coherently planned and organised in a way which ensures the coverage and progression of skills in all subjects are met whilst also enabling pupils to revisit concepts, ideas and vocabulary in order to commit knowledge into their long term memories.
  • Learning is memorable and opportunities are created which encourage our children to discover, enquire, challenge and grow as individuals.
  • It provides opportunities for all children to develop as independent, resilient and confident learners, with high aspirations, who know how to make a positive contribution to their community and wider society.
  • Allows our children to achieve depth to their learning by applying their knowledge and skills in a range of contexts and subjects.
  • Learning extends beyond the classroom through engaging enrichment and extra-curricular opportunities.
  • Develop children’s personal values, qualities and attitudes so that they are respectful of other people and their beliefs, views and opinions.
  • Encourage children to be caring, responsible and active citizens who positively contribute to the local and wider community and environment
  • Develop children with enquiring minds, who question the world around them with curiosity

Where appropriate, links are made across subjects which enables learning to become more meaningful.  Teachers assess the children's knowledge throughout lessons which helps them plan work matched to the needs of the children.  'Knowledge Mats' are created for topics which ensure children have a balance of developing skills and learning key knowledge.
